The Thing About Us
... is it's not about us.
Before I even had an idea of what I was going to do, I knew I wanted to work together with my Brothers to tell other folks like us about the Jesus we've come to know and to keep them from avoiding Jesus because of abuses by "cultural Christianity" or "churchianity."
From the start, I established five fundamental principles that would define whatever "this" would become:
- All decisions have to accord with the fulfillment of the Law as laid out by Jesus in Mark 12:29-31.
- All disagreements must be settled scripturally. If a position cannot be supported by God's Word, it won't fly. God's Word wins; every time.
- We are equals; as in Matthew 23:8 equal. We are figuratively—and literally—all Brothers serving the same Master (ῥαββί).
- We never use our unique education or experiences to set ourselves apart or above anyone else. When used appropriately, they should only be used to:
- legally establish ourselves for specific roles—as with using ordination or licensing for officiation or counseling;
- to affect a positive reflection on another organization—as with providing a keynote address or serving as a guest speaker; or to
- provide bona fides for an audience to better establish trust and confidence, when appropriate.
- The answer is JUST JESUS. No dress code, no judgment, no orthodoxy, no dogma... just Jesus.
Our middle Brother was (and is!) shepherding an independent faith-driven outreach in Boise, Idaho which really inspired a commitment to set everything aside and follow the example set by Jesus, and to trust in His Word and Helper; the Holy Spirit.
Originally intended as a motorcycle ministry and a source of support for the Boise outreach—UNABANDONED—that seed of faith has yielded a growing CHRIST-FIRST company providing education, books, music, and practical ministry support, while remaining firmly rooted in hands-on, Spirit-led presence among the church-hurt, the alienated, the poor, the outcast, and the weary—the very people Jesus walked with, ate with, and spent His life serving.
